Au cours du chapitre abbatial électif qui s'est tenu à l'abbaye bénédictine St. Thomas, Kappadu / Kerala / Inde, le Père Joji Ettaniyll a été élu abbé le 29 juin 2021.

Il a succédé au Révérend Père Abbé John Kurhianl, le premier abbé et l'un des premiers fondateurs du monastère.

Le Révérend Père Anthony Puthenpurackl O.S.B., Président de la Congrégation Silvestrienne, a gentiment accepté la délégation pour présider l'élection.
